existentialism

1.	EXISTENTIALISM

And there a bird lay
Blood dripping off tips of feathers
Wounded with glazed eyes

And the passerby filed pass
An angry little boy
Venting concentrated anger
Of a decade, a lifetime
Kicked it

It rolled forward
And off onto the railway line
The will to live extinguished
Yet on its heart beat
Its big small heart
And on its lungs pumped oxygen

It flicked its wings
Flicked its eyelids in the blazing sun
Its babies long past gone
Seeking their own worms
In more fertile soil

The boy mocked
Stared with bright brown
Conquering eyes in wonder
At the dull dying will
Threw a stone, missed
Tried to touch shimmering feathers
The throbbing body with
Long conquering fingers

Then ran off
The bird died with moist eyes
Dripping blood

Anger escaped
An unnecessary death.
