About This Poem
Discourse on Feathery Things
There are those who watch birds
and those who bird watch
I’m really not certain
which watcher is wot.
I’ve seen warblers and knucklers
hucklebees and a finch
greeblers and grossbeaks,
and, (I’m certain!) a grinch!
I’m no expert (of this I’ll confide)
at naming the genus and species
even though my expensive bird guide
shows excellent photos of feces.
Whatever soars, flaps or flies
(or doesn’t), it seems
is enough to give watchers
the stuff of their dreams.
I’ve poked my eye
on many a scope,
and stared down the sky,
but I’ve given up hope
of every mastering
this fine voyeuring art
I started too late,
I’m just an old fart.
But I guarantee one thing...
I CAN MAKE A BIRD FLY!!!
Just by holding a camera
up to my eye.
