Forgotten Home

Days go by
and life goes on
People grow old
while living along

Each day begins
with a rising sun
The ground is worked
the farm is run

The land is turned
as man grows old
He gives his heart
and he gives his soul

he maintains his home
till he no longer can
He raises his family
till they take their stand

Eventually he passes
the house starts to fail
The family moves on,
memories grow stale

But even though the house
has a roof thats sunken in
And siding with no paint
and the children left with him

The sun still sets at night
and glows across the corn
It glimmers off the leaves
and shines into the home

And even tho that place
hasn't held life for many years
The light lends it a moment
to smile through its tears

That is the circle of life. So well written and I really enjoyed reading this poem. Sad that we grow old so fast but the grand kids are a fantastic part of life. Love phyl
