The American Dream

The American Dream

Watching people walk by
I see them but they don’t see me
To them I am just a blight
Something to be ignored
Something to be erased from their world
Someone who does not exist
My thoughts no longer matter
Do they realize that I had a life?
Do they know that I had dreams?
I never used drugs of alcohol
I worked until my job was erased
Shipped overseas to save a few pennies
Now no one wants to talk to me
I am hungry for a crumb of bread
Sheltered only by a small cardboard box
Sleeping in clothes I have worn for a month
I am a nonperson
But at least I am still alive

Rob in these lines you captured what is real for many Americans, those not so skilled to have your wonderful talents. I have seen it many times with my own eyes and I cry for those who suffer so, and pray that the American dream wil soar once again, and not be destroyed by greed and total selfishness of the few who are not even aware of the havoc they reap on the innocent!Great poem!X
