About This Poem

They Would Not Part

She fights a year a brave one sided war,
relentless bound to grip her swords and shields,
the foe too cunning broke in through the door,
but love and faith hold fast when body yields.
She floats on shores around the dark dim keep,
he sits by windows held in pale sunlight
his salted tears beg for her heart to sleep
in tender rooms in soft and gentle night
he holds her hand and asks her, "What is life?
This thing for which we fight, and hold so dear!"
Her hand grips tight, he feels it like a knife;
"We fight for love, and faith will bind us here."
And beat in time away her fading heart,
assured by her reply they would not part.

    What a great story with all the poetic brilliance to go with it. What more could I ask for? Just wonderful!

    I'm pleased you liked this.....I'm beginning to dream how to immerse myself into verse...but now I can't really switch on unless I'm involved somehow, it really can become a strain at times, ha ...a frustrated Olympian fore and backstroke swimmer. Smiles....

    Splendid cadence and rhyming... nay, perfect. Powerful and passionate emotions. They triumph over death... transcendent!
