Whispers and rumors more often than not bring about unease, true. Congrats on your win Joann!

I hope adults have learned that whispers are much more scary to a child than spoken aloud unvarnished facts. Great poem. Congratulations. Love, Joyce

Appreciate your well-written insightful poem! Sad for all the children who have to deal with this and more on a daily basis in the world - when they are robbed of their childhood because the adults can't get along. Thanks for your comment. - Gail

Neat enjambment and clever rhyming! I, too, was a youngster during the Bay of Pigs crisis and well remember feeling uneasy with talk of bomb shelters and the 'Cold War.' Wonderful phrasing and imagery! Well done, Joann!! Best wishes, Keith :) PS Thanks for your visits!!!

oh yes, I was just a child in those times and so it was not affecting me but I've seen the movies of kids having to hide under desks for "drills" in schools. Can you imagine growing up a Jew in Hitler's Germany? I can think of no greater unease than that. OH MY

I, too, grew up in a time when there was talk of nuclear bombs or A-Bombs..We practiced drills, watched film on what to do in case of a bomb,etc..It did not worry me because of my parents attitude about the it..Great work about the topic of how parents and adults attitude hurting children...Thanks for stopping by...Sara

Remember "Duck and Cover"? I realized at age 12 tghat hiding under my desk would not do anything against the bomb and stopped worrying.

My poem "Child" is about Karter..His mother had told me that he did not eat green beans..So I put one on his plate..He picked it up and said, "What's this"..No one was really paying him any attention..So he laid it on our daughter Doris' plate and said to her, "here"..Sara
