About This Poem
Something New
Without saying a word, he made my young dreams come true
John, my friend, who had lived just down the road
In looking back, as I reminisce
So little did we know of this
This lovely thing
'Never odd or even' queer,
Something new had changed that day
Something new, beyond a kiss
'The most beautiful things, are not seen but are felt by the heart'
When his family first moved here from Canada
I would spy from my window, sigh, and cry with wanting a friend...
Did he notice me?
Until 'September in the rain'
We were caught unaware, unprepared, to fall in young love
He had only seen me as a friend, a peer, an ally, a companion
But now so much was new
A happy new realization lit up his eyes
My crushed hopes, running on empty, had come alive
His lips brushed mine so tenderly
'In just a little moment, one long ago September'
