About This Poem

Firelight Man

Hey you fella,
Gotta smoke for me.
I Aborigine.

You bring blanket,
Flour and tea.
You come along
Sit with me.

All'a my children
Come from my earth.
Belong back again
To the rocks and plains.

Every my child
A star in the sky,
You look
You never never see.

Come along
Sit with me.

A hymn to the earth is what I get. Alike the aboriginal Hymn to the Sun. I may not have nailed the meaning, but I love the challenge of your thinking. daver

Traditional Australian Aboriginal culture is tied closely to nature, the sky, the sea, the land. Complex. Thanks for reading, you're on the right track...cheers... Mike

We should all have this uncompromising respect for our planet, this simplicity, this grace. BRAVO Mike! Best wishes, Keith

Keith, a humbling 30 years, living in a wide land perhaps summed up in a few lines, only glimpsed the edges of the culture of it's caretakers. Our own traditional views might categorise it as an "uncompromising respect"...but i am sure that it is more "pure and absolute respect"...primal, and raw. The secret must lie in the blend. Your review leans a long way into the blend..thanks..mike

Keith, in retrospect I have had a very humbling 30 years, living in a wide land perhaps summed up in a few lines, only glimpsed the edges of the near unfathonable culture of it's traditional caretakers. Our own traditional views might categorise it as an "uncompromising respect"...but i am sure that it is more a "pure and absolute respect"...primal, and raw. The secret must lie in the blend. Your review leans a long way into the blend..thanks..mike
