About This Poem

I met mon cher

I met mon cher when just eighteen
He made me laugh and burst my spleen.
Somehow with him I was not shy
Youthful love is oh what a high!
Who knew culture would come between?!

C’est la vie! Life can be so mean
I know c’est vrai I was his queen.
Now I recall in tears and sigh –
I met mon cher.

My heart broke when he said good bye.
He’d introduced me to French bean!
His mom refused, he didn’t pry.
He couldn’t … and don’t ask me why.
And now it seems almost obscene
I met mon cher.

Lighthearted engaging poetry that speaks of young love minus the bitterness and regrets - very nice and smooth.
