Today I saw a tree trunk,
Growing through a fence.
Metal bars pierced, as it grew,
It almost didn’t make sense.
Sap oozed out its flesh,
Where the spike had bored.
Victim of its own success,
As if it had fell upon its sword.
I wondered if the tree was wise,
That growing meant having to agonize.
The tree didn’t seem to mind though,
As it stretched toward the rainbow..
