About This Poem

Gladiator

Tears shadow my eyes but do not drown the thunder I have slain my friend ! ... As he perished by my sword, he thanked me for his freedom How oddly my world will deafen me with honor, declare me winner, with a badge of irony, and a defeated spirit The blazing sun dims, and seems to eclipse all time... I am not afraid... as the sound of cheering fades, and earth moves in slow motion I now see dust rise... as dark drops of my own blood, small puffs of my life, at last free me from this doom to join the afternoon wind
