About This Poem

Memoriam

It pulls at me
Like a memory
Bend, sway
Lightning cracks
Over the watercolor horizon
I stand, moon-eyed
To watch as the vitality of the sun
Slips beneath the inky surface

She wore a crown of mercury
Falling below forty degrees
A new fire, lost in the juniper spring

Murky mire, ivory, onyx, and grey
Today's Ophelia, temples florid rose
Her many layers swell with drink
Lazy river, great brown god
I was up to my chin
And now I wade
