When I Come Home

When I come home
To your face
Smiling through the window
Your tears away

I hold on to the image
When my mind fills with darkness
And the lights dim
When the fire catches the grass… the trees… my house
And I’m breathless,
I’m restless

Your rosy skin
Your salty tears
The mischief in your smirk

Yet there are times when it is so hard
I feel the weight of a boulder on my back
Tight, Tired
Oh and the emptiness in my heart it hurts
And my stomach it burns a hole

Reminding myself I made you

You look to me with the blue heaven of your eyes
And I let the hatred consume me
The past assume me
Lost to a web my mind spins long and deep
Out of all my insecurities, all my fears
