Winds of Autumn

I called to the winds of autumn
As they wrapped up the dying year;
"Oh stay for a moment and tell me
Of answers I need to hear".

Who is the rival of prudence
Who is the merchant of crime
Who closes the eyes of beauty
And steals the hours of time?
Who brings the winter to age
From the springs of the fountain of youth
Who is the companion of sorrow
And destroys the justice of truth?
Who's the apprentice of Satan
The Prince of the Power of Air
Whose appetite is transgression
With more than enough to share?
Who weakens the power of the great
Who slaughters the wisdom of wise
Who brings the honest and gracious
To depths that others despise?

The winds of autumn now answered
With a voice like a phantom call
"It's an evil afflicting so many
Who drown in the drink alcohol."
This is the spell of the devil
Who casts his net from hell
An addiction with power to destroy
Gathering all who are caught in its spell
For his net will gather the unwary
To beguile lost souls with his breath;
This is the destruction of lost dreams
That perish in the arms of death

    Lost souls through alcoholism....how poignant and how moving are the narratives. Hi Lizzie, this poem surely made me reflect on life and all the evil that exist in this world and how alcohol or other abusive substances can take a beautiful life into the destruction of lost dreams...as you wrote in your last two phrases. How inspirational! You are so creative and talented.

    Liz,, Stopping by to greet you and every other soup poet, with a special thank you comment, during this wonderful Thanksgiving season. Amazingly beautiful with some bold questions and answers too in your most alluring new style my friend. You have definitely given a new twist to your wonderful unique style, if I am not wrong. Incidentally I too have placed a new Poem on ‘Winds’ but unlike you I could not ask them any such wonderful questions and listened only what they whispered in my ear and made me felt by their touch. Love and best wishes always…Ravindra…Elizabeth Wesley

    Oh, I think you sprouted up from a geyser of concept and notion. This is mind boggling!! I'm so happy I came across your name and clicked on it!:) BTW, with your kind words and profound insight, you are an inspiration to others! Love the format of this write, many questions, though the autumn wind doesn't waste his breath answering each one. In this instance there is only one answer! Excellent write, Elizabeth! Best wishes, Mikki

    A stunning poem indeed. The affect of alcoholism is no doubt devastating. Thanks for your concern for my backpain, Elizabeth. Incidentally, I happened to be in Karachi when it happened. I ran from one Orthopedic Surgeon to the otheritals, all diagnosing Spinal Stenosis and advising surgery. Finally, I had the surgery done by a Neurosurgeon in the Naval Hospital Shifa on March 7 followed by a three week physiotherapy. I am OK now and proposing to travel to Portugal on May 11. Regards. -Mohammad

    Now now lass.... ye've certainly whipped up quite the creation here... Yet 'tis this I must confess... as ancient sailor o'the seas... that 'tis drink doth fuel me pen with exceptional duress... ne'er e'er writ a word when had not grog to please! 'Tis as though thought doth flow from within muddled mind... thus tis is it so that doth flow an ink of ancient wine. SeaWolf

    'Tis the demon rum for sure. A little drink once in a while isn't bad, so they say. As a reformed alcoholic, I must violently disagree. You start small and it creeps up on you. Before you know it......... Love, daver
