About This Poem

Midnight Pearls

.

                                        Shine, midnight pearls!
The smoke curls up in whirls of doom

                                        On the wet sand
my own hand draws unplanned pierced hearts

                                        Deep blue-black sky
I play by rules and sigh despair

                                        To lay aside
starry-eyed dreams that hide a sin

                                        Shine, distant stars!
Through guitars notes, through scars of time

                                        For her first kiss
an abyss drains all bliss from me

                                        And far away
shadows play down their spray of doubts

                                        Opaque pearls, shine!
On this fine night, define my north

A touching write, Ruben! First time I'd ever thought of the stars as midnight pearls...wonderful imagery! The moon always seems to be given center stage, oh but those stars aren't such a moody lot.:) Best wishes, congratulations on your win! Mikki

Ruben, I once sat on wet sand drawing heart finger images... and drew what I felt,, they where all cracked in the middle except for the one heart that i drew, that represented maybe my sheer future.. who knew the water was gonna come and wash the broken hearts away.. that really meant something to me that moment. I'm pleased with the deep emotions you display in your poem. doubt is a mighty character I want to stay away from...... Ruben, your poem is pretty and shines with all hope.. xox~ PD
