The retreat

A divide in my path, the election of flight
or extract my weapons and prepare to fight?
I would combat forever, if it was worth
The prize of envy and eternal hurt

What if I fought, but still never won?
Fought til my heart had no beats left to drum
Would I come out on top, yet still no victory
Will you ever truly belong to me?

My instinctive army yells I'll never yield
Urges my flight from this battlefield
I kick off the ground and never look back
But at least I retreat with my dignity intact

I Just Can't Win contest

The sun is shining bright here this morning in Ohio and I am enjoying reading some very interesting and excellent writing. So happy to see yours among the ones I am able to read this fine day before I get busy. Have a wonderful day and thank you so much for sharing your poetry with us Jodie. Love, Carol

Uplifting work. The last stanza, "with my dignity intact"
