toward on

something spat her
into backwaters again
was it those devilish chemicals
carving blueness into her being
did she absorb the black ways and moods of creek cold people
does she wear the hungry battles of the world
hang them on her tiny shoulders
she's strong as the tide
she'll snap out of it
like a sprig beneath a stone
return to the ocean
stroke her conche into deep violet and pink
bloom once again
slowly turn herself from off to on
