DUST AND COBWEBS

Dust and cobwebs are peaceful things,
Softening corners, knitting rings,
Coverlets that long to just stay,
Daring the breeze to come their way,
Oh, how their simplicity clings.

The gray hues their presence brings
mock the cleaning rag’s aimless swings,
Just out of reach, in alcoves play
                                           Dust and cobwebs

While buds beckon and the morn sings,
Doves bathe in loam, flutter their wings,
But our corn brooms we must obey,
Chasing winter on a spring day,
I nod to and leave my dwellings’
                                           Dust and cobwebs
