Missing Mother

Bits of me are missing mother,
the bits of me which you placed.
Bits of me are missing Mother ah..
I see you in my face.
Trying to remember Mother’s days
of wine and roses..Sinatra songs and beaches,
pipe curls and crinolines, days so far gone, so long ago,
replaced by bitter brew, by tears, by fears,
by little pills, I remember you.

I see you in my face, Mother.
Years gone by and still I try,
no easy thing to do, try to remember,
just a few... memories of happy days with you?

Was it when I learned to read, when you baked your pies?
Ah, Mother, mother memories ... only come in sighs.

Still, in all, it’s very true,
          I spend each day missing,
                           missing all of you.

As we grow into our own person, figuring out who we are, we often grow to understand why we are who we are, and who our parents were, and why they were who they were, has given me a better look at my own possibilities, some things I have had to let go.... some things I want to cling to. I often get them confused....but with each passing year, it is easier to sort them out, and simply learn from them. This is a touching heartfelt journey... you have taken us with you.

I feel the same way about my father and those times a bit of his darkness appears I realize why he loathed himself. Other times his pure nature appears and I realize why I loved him despite his failings. Congratulations, you have created a meaningful piece with this one.

Now that, that is poetry and love and heartbreak and you dazzled me with honesty and ... well, I could go on, honey. But I've only a moment. This selfish poet-- I am selfish because I write above all else, above reading and commenting and telling others that their words have hit their marks, as yours has-- this selfish poet wants to say thank you. You really moved me. Blessings, always, Cyndi Writing is so seductive, it's hard to resist its call. Poetry, the addiction...
