About This Poem

A Hellish Daydream

Facing up I see a ripple in the sky
Much like in the ocean caused by boats
The brightness of the sky burns my cornea
A white streak is stretched across linking clouds
the sun peeks through slowly from a cloud
as the wind picks up blowing sand in my eyes
I gently rub my eyes and remove the grains
And as they open I see pillars of stone
Volcanic eruptions of molten lava
Giant skeletal birds soaring high
In the pitch black sky, starless, sunless, moonless
Geysers of fire blasts shaking the ground
Beneath my feet, the ground of dirty red clay
Screaming and screeching from the tortures
Of indentured and lost souls of the dead
A steamy dry wind blows dirt in my eyes
I wipe the dirt from my eyes, the screeching seizes
I open my eyes and the plane is still soaring above
The bright blue sky no longer burns my cornea
The sun hides behind a white cloud
How I wish for it to show itself again
