Silver dots

There are holes in the elbows
Of your winter jacket
Holes in the collar
And holes in the pocket
Can’t keep anything there
Just hold out hope
For some summer air
And the summer stitches
Which it brings
To fix the holes
In your winter skin

You can look at the stars all you like darling
They’re still silver dots in the sky
And you can ask me again
Why they’re not made of diamonds
But I’m sorry, I still don’t know why
I don’t know why

There are holes in your jeans
And there are holes in your excuses
And I can see right through
To your sun shaped your bruises
There are holes in your make-up
And I can see that you care
But you just hold out for some summer air
And the summer stitches
Which it brings
To fix the holes
In your winter skin

You can look at the stars all you like darling
They’re still silver dots in the sky
And you can ask me again
Why they’re not made of diamonds
But I’m sorry, I still don’t know why
I don’t know why
