Night Meets Day

Each gleaming light shines like a sun
Expanding awesomely in curling fires;
Each cloud forms a grotesque face
A face that knows not its bizarre desires.

We ascend in separate ways toward the sky
To merge the fantasies that form the trance;
We turn our eyes to engage the dream
And find the song that weaves the dance.

The violin throbs with threads of silver
The french horn wails with sobs of gold
And time found notes to knit the music
That was too tenuous to hold.

In the crowd were so many anxious faces
Ready to speak, to smile or frown;
They kept motionless in those quiet places
Where dark sorrows tied them down.

In what new time or space do we yearn
To pace the thousand steps that lead before us;
In what new light or darkness can we turn
Before time ends and darkness abhors us?

The lamp is out, the dream now forgotten
The music has stopped, the candle wastes away;
Through tangled hopes and dreams we passed
To find the place where night meets day.

    Ouff..I got a chill at the end, Elizabeth! Loved the imagery, "each cloud forms a grotesque face", gives it an oblique setting.:) Ah, but the ending, certainly "where night meets day". You amaze me! Best wishes, Mikki

    A vast horizon slips inside a void of time with no human pride. The silent sounds of distant light. Expanding far the daily flight. Of constant eagles strive for quarry. As angels know there's no need to worry. Time marches in it's own parade. As we just go on in our own charade. bty Elizabeth, I will be coming back to this poem again. Such amazing swirlings. :)

    Beautiful poetry, masterful use of language to convey an eternal truth. That we all our striving to find that place where our hopes and dreams assuage our fears and transcend the darkness and the light and mingle joyfully in sorrows and happiness. The dream is not all forgotten as it were, but it will die if we stay motionless in those quiet places. Great stuff as always Mrs. Elizabeth

    Very dramatic, Liz - impressionistic, vague but powerful. For me the poem is too complex to form a solid idea. I will read this a few more times. Understand, I'm rather thick at times. Love, daver
