Tears to Weep

When I lay me down to sleep,
And cry the tears that sinners weep;
To speak the words of a contrite prayer,
And know that someone listens there.

He cares for sheep that have gone astray,
Who willfully wander their own way;
They vex the pride that hides within,
And drink the bitter cup of sin.

The web of lies and dark deception,
Lie in defeat of Light’s conception;
To capture all and destroy life,
With passion’s fire and human strife

We need to plant the gospel vine,
Where evil rules and saints repine.
While martyrs lead with ransomed prayer,
With hope for life that tarries there.

Blood that was shed on Calvary,
Set slaves of transgression wholly free.
So we rise from the grave to seek reward,
Giving praise to our risen Lord.

    Brilliantly composed a powerful Poem Elizabeth, with a lament for, "Where evil rules and saints repine. While martyrs lead with ransomed prayer, With hope for life that tarries there." A great work by you my friend on Repentance, Praise and Love for God. Another masterpiece which was missed by me. Love and best wishes always...Ravindra

    Thanks again for the visit, and the beautiful words of encouragement. Sorry for the delay in responding back. I got behind, in trying to keep up. I am currently without internet, when I make trips into town, is when I am able to surf around. I should be hooked back up soon. God Bless

    Elizabeth, This poem is outstanding in meaning and concept and also in rhyme. I have been having computer problems. I need to buy a new computer, so I am saving for one. In answer to your question about my tanka, my childhood was as about as far from Donna Reed as you could get plus we moved so much I attended 15 different schools by the time I was in 9th grade. I am happy to say my children have it better. Thanks, Connie

    Elizabeth??? Are you okay??? Please, let me know either via Soup mail, a reply to this comment (I will check) or a comment on a poem of mine. Been a bit since you've been here. Are you sick with that nasty bug that is going around? I see that Robert mentions painting... perhaps you are simply putting your creative energy elsewhere at the moment. I just want to make sure you're all right... my spidey senses are tingling that something is amiss... family??? Hugs, Cyndi

    My goodness Elizabeth, you have developed quite a following. Not undeservedly so. I too am glad to see a new one from you. And it is as good as any you've done. It's an exquisite display of soulful eloquence. A little church service in the middle of the week. You are a graceful gift to us here at soup. Hope the painting is as fulfilling. Take care.

    Amazing Elizabeth. A gripping, heartfelt and inspirational piece profoundly delivered. Your verses are so very well executed and your rhythm is superbly done. Wow! Your message is captivating ...(contrite prayer, and know that someone listens there) Your last phrase captures the meaning of this poem wholeheartedly! A masterpiece!

    Spiritually triumphant write, Elizabeth,,,u brought it back to HIM at the end which means it delights the heavens...the opening stanza is a hook that draws the reader in with familiarity and then you go so much deeper into the heart of a sinner. Glad I read this thru a couple times...its message is not a light one. Have a great weekend, Elizabeth Wesley...(just think what the Wesley Press is missing out on!!!!) RIGHT? lol.
