Can We Know

Your loving eyes thirst
My love makes them shine;
Bring your eyes closer
Till they look into mine.

It's not long we've been lovers
Before you it was strange
I wanted to know your feelings
And how they would change.

For when we are looking
With eyes all aglow;
Then we are knowing
How much we don't know.

The knowledge eludes us
We are afraid to be free;
Can I ever know you
Or can you know me?

    Hello dear friend. I'm sure grateful for you and Dan Kearley, your the only two who came to visit. :) I can know you and you can know me. But truly it's only to a certain degree. :) A lovers embrace can speak to our hearts. And break them in two if love ever parts.

    '...then we are knowing how much we don't know,' '...can I ever know you, can you ever know me?' With all relationships there is an element of doubt, of credibility. How can we know? A powerful piece which asks all the questions that really cannot be answered.

    An enchanting Love Poem, elizabeth. Even in a life time association people don't know each other. Man's nature (women included) has such enormous complexities. I like the poem. What a wonderful comment you have Painth. Yes, if we were pain free we would think we have died. It confirms my view that life is an endless pain. Thanks for your appreciation. Best wishes. -Mohammad

    Can anyone ever really know us? Do we even really know ourselves? I think on the surface we think we know... but as we face each day, and the things we are confronted with, well....I dont know.. :) Another great write Elizabeth

    Beyond an illusion walking lonely avenues. We find ourselves in solitude looking for the clues. And when each day begins to open up our eyes. The one who has the truest heart, is the one who always cries.

    This is thoughtful poem, Elizabeth. Sometimes, even our closest sister doesn't know who we really are... and lover? pfff... doubt it they would try as hard as we would.. Sorry, I'm a bit cynical these lately... but yeah I totally agree with your poem. And your last two lines, perfect other verses! hugs, dinda.

    Yes the paradox Lizzie...) so much of life is "unknown" i think genrally people would be better of as a whole.. if this was aknowledged;as "a truth" then we would not see so many mistakes generated by people trying to "be in control"

    is this real?

    Do we really know all about each other. A poem to ponder Elizabeth, and a fine poem at that :)

    tough questions especially in the beginning of getting to know and not necessarily talking about time. Interesting how people see differently through differing emotions. The hardest most difficult person that I've ever gotten to or in the process of knowing is me/ after that it's all easy. Socrates said "know thyself". wise words. thanks for sharing your poem Lizzie

    Very well done, Elize. It is better to not know all about your soul mate, yet another reason to keep you interested in him/her. Works both ways, I think. Love, and trust should be enough for a healthy relationship.

    Good question. "All is vanity." Someone said it. "In my Father's House are many mansions." Of course, Jesus said it. I figure the human mind is full of these mansions also. Married 60 years, I wonder. Superior work. Love, daver

    Oh I do so agree my friend. They say that familiarity breeds comtempt though so I guess that's the reason for the other old saying that says, "Always keep them guessing". A lovely write here my friend. Great job. Love the last two lines, "Can I ever know you, Or you know me?" Great stuff. God Bless, JB
