The Ultimate Honor

Hang not tinsel upon your soul,
With false expressions of goodness.
A fool’s gold is not worthy of fame,
Although its glitter may catch the eye.
Let your deeds done be true and faithful,
As a springboard of hope for those forsaken.
The sluggard in search of cheap fortune,
Will get lost in the swell of man’s praise.
An honest spirit will long persevere,
Though their trials rise as fiery tempest.
The remembrance of grace brings deliverance,
As the heart surrenders to compassion.
A good eulogy is never the ultimate honor,
While days filled with integrity are worthy.
To come to final judgment before your maker,
Can lift you beyond the platitudes of man.
Other tokens of praise will diminish,
With His words, “Well done, faithful servant.”

All true. An excellent way of sharing the truth. I would recite this anywhere! (Of course with permission!)

this free verse of yours is loaded right up, Virginia. I had to read it a few times to get it all. I like the imagery used and of course it's all true. A thoughtful write.
