About This Poem

a good yarn: grief relief

When words don't help
Knit and purl the agony out
Your hands will learn how

10/6/11
Inspired by Ann Hood's book "The Knitting Circle" (one of the saddest books I have ever read)

I used to be an avid knitter myself and that's absolutely true. Twist and turn and cut off agony's neck. Truly a well-deserved first placement in the contest. Well done, Susan. :)

Great analogy with the knitting processes, comparing them to words. I really like the message here, Susan. I haven't read Hood's book -- thought it was a technical manual. Now I know it is much more. Thanks for enlightening me! Love, Carolyn

I have a knitting friend and she's always complaining - I'm wondering how she'd be without her knitting needles... Thanks - enjoyed the contest : )

My wife loves knitting. She makes hats, mittens, jumpers, scarves, baby blankets, dolls clothes...you name it. She finds it both relaxing and rewarding. A good yarn, indeed, Susan! xoxo Robert.

wow, this is GOOD, Susan. One of your best "shortie" poems! Think I'll fave it!(I cannot believe the time I have had trying to get on. Finally I am here but hubbie is upstairs with "high anxiety" and may not sleep all night! I sure hope he can. The job hunting is so hard on him. Luv, Andrea
