About This Poem

Lying In Our Speech

Why has lying has become such a part of our speech
There are no lies that can be washed away with bleach
Does anyone care when someone lies
We have become numb to these I cry

I fear all of those who lie have fallen beyond our reach
Where does one draw this line with freedom of speech
Those who believe they are lying for a reason
For them telling lies is like some kind of season

I have tried to explain these things not to preach
Is there someone among us who can still teach
We need to stop this lying like a reflux
It's a tragedy in our speech that sucks

An interesting topic and poem, ed. I think there is actually a need sometimes for "white" lies, as we call them, but yes, generally honesty is THE best policy!
