His Nose

The nose he wears sits on his head
It's big and round and very red;
And in the dark it always glows
It must be awful to own that nose.
There's two dark holes filled with hair
With whatever else that's hidden there;
Each time I see with great surprise
That glow that sits between his eyes.
It shines as though when night meets day
There never could be another way;
I wonder too if he can tell
If red affects his sense of smell.
Perhaps the problem is I think
He's had in time too much to drink;
I suggested then to paint it white
And he seemed to think this was alright.

    I'll never think of noses in quite the same way again! Funny as **** , and a perfect composition for the contest. :)

    I must say I was browsing your library of poetry and I was a bit taken by the name of this one. I thought you were referring to a clown at first, but then I realized it was a fairly deep poem about what I think is abuse of alcohol. Anyway, I was captivated and impressed, and just a little disgusted!  -KMD

    The bulbous nose of an alcoholic, right? This is just perfect....sad to say, there are many of those noses in my dear family. Ughhh. Enjoyed. Gwendolen

    LOL LOVE the humor, Elizabeth. I had a friend who drank a lot, but I don't think he would have allowed me to paint his nose white. (Actually, I was thinking of Rudolph the reindeer in the beginning.) Very clever and witty! Love, Carolyn

    Elizabeth... This takes people watching to a whole new and interesting level. This nose is the nucleous!Te narcisstic point of the face beheld by the watcher pointing to the person /character of the person that is opened up in the last line. Gotta hand it to you. It's really cool!Love it. I will give this a shot myself sometime because of your inspiration.

    "There's two dark holes filled with hair - with whatever else that's hidden there;" Wonderful! If he's had that much to drink, why then anything would be alright. This one made my day. Love, daver
