Poor Boy

Poor boy.
He wants to join,
But he’s too afraid to get wet.
He’s too afraid to join in.

He stands and watches
As everyone else has fun.
He’s too afraid to run
Through the Blue Lagoon.

Standing behind him,
Laughing at his shyness,
His mom itches
Just to push him in-

To the crowd of giggling kids.
He can’t help the way he feels.
Like how unclean it would be
To just step in.

His mom yells at him,
“Go ahead, jump in.
It’s ok. Just join in.”
Just like a normal kid.

It’s too bad he could never
Just join in.
It’s too bad he could never
Be just a normal kid.
