Inside the Bottle

He wakes up in the drunk tank
As an educated man
An honors degree inside the bottle
A family inside the bottle

He's sober when he's jailed
But he's drinking when he can
His wits inside the bottle
His freedom inside the bottle

A firm eviction notice
To the streets without a plan
His university ring inside the bottle
His fathers watch inside the bottle

When he wakes up in the county
He doesn't know what he did wrong
His life was in the bottle
He drank it down, it's gone

I know my number of alcoholics and it sure is sad to see them drink their lives away. Good poem Kyle :)

A sad testimony on the evils of drink. It's taken many a soul down the evil path.

An excellent piece here my friend. Reminds me of a man who tried to get me to feel sorry for him by telling me about all his degrees and his big house and family he lost because of booze. Then he asked me to buy him a pack of cigarettes. I said no and told him to stop drinking and he could afford his own. Good write here. Good Bless, JB

Thank you for commenting on my poem. I like this poem. If anyone in life has ever had to deal with someone they love that has lived life through a bottle can relate to this. Very strong.
