The Dance

She carries dinner and sweet tea
to her man in the field
as purple hews of sunset
streak down mountain sides.

An evening breeze is welcomed,
cooling the damp dress
clinging to her shape
in the shadow of night.

Darkness settles over Heaven and Earth,
bare feet caress rich soil
as bodies held tight in rhythmic embrace--
dance.

I forgot to say, "Don't sell yourself short on your writing abilities." Once we have THE GIFT, we need to practice to make it better as we go. I look back on my early writings, and see VAST improvement as I studied and practiced my art. I have 6 books published now, and do stage work, and lots of radio with my cowboy poetry. It all is good for me, and such fun! Love regular poetry too Tho'!

I know these things happen with farmers as far as the long hours they work, and wives sometimes have to take their dinner to the fields. I thought, why not make it a young couple who caught that moment romantically, not just the end of another tiring day.

about your poem... This is very lovely...the way it all passionately ends up is delightful. A man only gets what he deserves.. and to me.. the man in your poem, was offered the best..xox~pd

Tamara, I like the comment you left on my poem... I agree with you... to some point... But, I think I'm one of the poets, who has a hand full of both PM's and non-pm winners on my contest list.. I love us all the same..I actually stick with the non-pm's...i think the PM's here on the soup avoid me and some think very little of me..lol... They don't bother me..The only reason i have a pm, cause it's fun. I don't join many contest. You see I'm not as good as all the other poets. I don't think many of the sponsors like my poetry. However i did join the insanity or death contest.. It is still out there.. You should try it... talk to you soon...xox~PD
