Words of A Sweet and Sour Mom

Real Title: Words of a Sweet and Sour "Mom"
(the title heading won't take quotation marks
and other special characters, a thing I find most
irritating because a title can really lose its effect
without these things!)

“You MUST call me Mom” not such a bad thing to ask - unless demanded “You’ve been a good wife” this remark came with a cruise - best gift of my life My husband and kids - all are in her will but me. . . . “Andrea’s not blood"
By Andrea Dietrich for Dr. Ram Mehta's Contest: "In-laws"

P.S.- I find the non-allowing of special characters in the title irritating too. There are times when the writer needs them! God bless!

Some people are strange. My daughters-in-law are as much family to me as my sons, but, as I say, some people are strange. A powerful and poignant write, Andrea. Glad you hit contest glory! Love and warm wishes, Robert.

Great write, Andrea. I can see why you call her sweet and sour. LOL, I think I'm glad I've never met my in-laws... Well, Shakespeare's pretty handsome in the Chandos portrait - the one most likely to be him, apparently.

  1. Date: 5/25/2011 8:38:00 AM

Oh those inlaws, Andrea, some can have the most ornery ideas! Their loss for sure, Andrea! My mother in law had loaned the youngest her family tree. I wasn't part of it, but everyone else was...LOL I think I'll plant cabbages this year...maybe more kids will be hiding there? Anyhow, wishing you and yours the best!!! Mikki

Ouch!!! A few zingers in there..... but you mirror what I've heard from other friends of mine... I was very fortunate, I must say!

This one says at least a hundred things between the lines... and I understand about the title punctuation....It does infringe on the possibilities to enhance the meaning. Very good write here Andrea...gotta be another winner

Thanks for your comment, Andrea. Let me know when you post your top ten. I had thought about other things (fishing, boating, etc.), but spiritual values are more important to me.

Wowza, this one cut me with its razor edge. Brilliant juxtaposition of "mom" and "not blood" Really enjoyed the impact of this poem. And I feel for you. Cheers, ~Soulfire~

Oooh, that's a bitter ending, Andrea. I guess she expects your husband to share his inheritance with you. I used to call my mother-in-law by her first name. She seemed happy with that. Glad you got the cruise at least. Great entry for Dr. Ram's contest. Wishing you success! Love, Carolyn

Amen. How well I remember that razor-sharp tongue. Somehow I could never think of her as "Mom." You be cool." Love, daver
