could the living face the dead?
what would they say to us?
our parents?
our ancestors?
our predecessors and the ancients?
would they be proud of our way of life?
i think not!!!
they would be appalled at the insensitivity,
at the very ignorance and selfishness of the human race as we know it.
they would not be able to comprehend our lack of honor.
they wouldn't be able to conceive our complacency toward one another.
shame wouldn't describe their regret for what we have become.
and what does it come down to?
could the living face the dead?
when money and time and our very lives have come to an end, they will ask.
was it worth it?
would it have been too much if we had only thought of the children,
the very children our greed and selfishness kills daily?
would it have been too much to ignore their lack of medical insurance and save a life
worth as much as ours?
would it have been too much to love when love seemed impossible?
would time have stood still if only it was your life hanging in the balance?
wouldn't you want the same courtesy paid to you?
could the living face the dead?
no.
they would be speechless.
they would be unable to connect or try anymore.
they would give up on the human race.
and why not?
we've already given up on ourselves
