My love

I tried to give my love a smile; she turned and said I must rest a while.
I tried to give my love a laugh and she just waved and walked on past.
I tried to give my love a kiss, she turned her head and then I missed.
I tried to give my love a hug, she pushed away and then I shrugged.
I tried to give my love my heart, she gave it back and it broke apart.
I’d give my life for her to live; these are all I have to give.
I try to be what she expects of me,
I try to see what she wants me to see.
But what she wants and what I am are not the same and may never be.
And I’ll keep trying day by day and hope she will love me anyway
