Scheherazade
Another tale, it's just a game--
Kiss Death's cold cheek, but Death evade.
My captor knows not that we
Play;
I hide it well, within a maze of
Frames.
What truth that I have left unmasked,
A secret code yet to be
Cracked,
Diversions that are cut in halves,
Each story better than
The last.
He realizes not that I've spun a web around
His heart and back again.
It's been at least
A thousand nights
Since the night that I began.
My voice has not wavered since the day on which
I wed.
Each night, he pays close mind, clearly
Hypnotized.
And I know I'll see the morning sun
And once more, I'll dodge
The knife.
Because so long as he is occupied, I can save my life.
