Hunger

there's a hunger inside of me
that just won't go away
it crept up on me
it creeps up on me everyday

sometimes it pains me
sometimes it makes me sad
but oftentimes, it confuses me
or makes me feel evil and bad

i can't control this hunger
the torture always remains
steady i lose my sanity
and am unable to contain

eventually it might become lesser
but not before it'll gain
because this hunger will last forever in me
it's never left me for a day

maybe my problem
is no problem at all
possibly it's just the media
the media's rubbing it raw

maybe this is normal
not fancy pills and drinks
maybe we are normal
forget the Britney Spears links.

we are all so normal
with this thing, so-called "hunger"
they are the freaks
all trying to look younger

i am younger
i am young
i am a child
but look what I've become

because of them
society and the "stars"
taking out our minds
playing with them, storing them in jars

in a sick, twisted way
they mess with our head
change who we are
how in the world did it make it this far?

must we all be accepted?
as people we say we are?
just because these people are "cool"
better than the real us by far?

the human race is so fake
none of us know ourselves
we just have a vague memory
of the dust on the shelves

because everyone has a closet
no matter where they live
and see, the skeletons in these closets,
they never forgive

eventually they'll come out
no matter who you want to be
it might be on your death bed
but someday, a true person will be seen

someday when you are so tired
and so old
someday when your body is
no longer very bold
someday when your body is
nothing to flaunt
and any thoughts of this are only
tedious taunts
yes, of the days when you were younger
and how stupidly you cared
and how much you now wish you were true,
but of how you always remains so very mortally scared.

this is all so simple
but even i succumb
worshipping the media
until my logic goes numb

the looking-glass self
is the blame of it all
also check mead's theories
she was on the ball.
