my ode

its very hard to say who i love the most
i love all poets from coast to coast
dickenson, poe, frost, shakespere
an endless line of poets i fear
but when it comes to real poetry
and some not all may agree
there is none better than sorrow or greif
to bring to life ones poetry
they awaken a ghost living inside me
holding my attention ever so silently
they share our spaces with a sombre pride
tell their stories with tears in eyes
they aim there words at broken hearts
and with a tired line they start
others unpoetic they wail
but all from abuse and death they hail
they bring the words that stir our equlibrium
make us cry when our spirits meet with them
laughter and happiness they have their place
but saddness and toil you cannot erase
i'll screem my sorrows as high
as the listening skyes
rage with anger as if my soul died
and with my words dampen every eye
inspire, unite, defy, denigh and teach
make it seem as though i preach
make them look up to the stars
and think about there own scars

(I would have won that contest.)

What a special poem. You would have one. Sometimes one of the contests ignites a spark that doesn't quite fit the contest, but I am glad of the spark. Some very good lines in this. I enjoyed reading it so much.

"they bring the words that stir our equilibrium" "I'll scream my sorrows as high as the listening skies" These are just a couple of great lines I like in this poem of yours John. Well done!

Very good description of the way emotions trigger our writings, John. Poetry is a great vehicle to "scream our sorrows," my friend. I had left poetry behind for many years until my father died. Then the sorrows needed to be released again. I know you are still grieving, dear friend, and your writing is filled with emotion. Keep letting it out -- much better than holding it inside! Many poets can relate to this poem. Awesome! Love, Carolyn

Smile ~ "Yes," I suppose that such would be the brushings found while as walking through this shadow of the valley of death; definitely their joyous cup of tea so to speak to behold within others & to see but, "Far" from the will of "My Beautiful Heavenly 'Holy Fathers'" desires for myself or "His Children" I most surely do believe my dear friend ~ Smile, "Hello 'Dear Precious & Priceless John Loving III'" ~ Seems as a paradox does it not, when it comes to say, poetry that ~ ....Cont:)
