Hour Glass
Hope is drowning in the hour glass
and all the answers disagree.
I thought I knew, I wish I’d asked.
I lost my way reading maps
like a novice out to sea.
Hope is drowning in the hour glass.
Sedated my ego and choked on laughs.
Formulated an identity.
I thought I knew, I wish I’d asked.
Built it to watch it collapse -
and ran away ignorantly.
Hope is drowning in the hour glass.
Beneath the rubble, a smoldering past
And the cost of what was thought free.
I thought I knew, I wish I’d asked.
All the sweat burned to ash.
My soul is a chimney.
Hope is drowning in the hour glass.
I thought I knew, I wish I’d asked.
