sunlight (or the long await)

sunlight.

sunlight
cadillacs
glimmering like
silver sacred cows
on the long
twisting
shepherds crook
bou-le-vard
as
he wades
through the smoky boardwalk
footsteps
while
the
drive-in
moon
sighs
out another
silhouette

sunlight
and summer ink is
drowning ophelia
on the asphalt
after he
drinks his
iced tea
from a whiskey glass
and blows out
unburned
flames
of
the chlorine haired
girls
and their give and take
games
of singing out
the

-sunlight
and the
street smells like
diesel
and overused perfume
some
consumed dream
that fell
deafly on his ears inside
for he was too preoccupied:
he was certain that the little stirring of loose leaf
at the bottom his cup were the seeds
of
eternity.

sunlight
about
and he had everything on this mortal earth
but you-
so he broke his compass
threw the pieces in the gravel
and tried
to
look in his heart
for the way
"home"

sunlight
day past
45 degree
45 caliber
midnights
shadows fly backwards
like drunken ravens
on to the pool table
where he
chased the 8
around
and
around
and thought
that he and you
might just be dogs
chasing after cars
chasing after dogs
chasing after cars
chasing after dogs.

sunlight
and he's waiting
for your
flak jacket
fashion show
walking
the catwalk
chasing the rats
down the l o n g
fire
escape
where the stone angels hold their rifles
and
Mr.
Oedipus Eastman
sells him his
Ko
Da
Ch
Ro
Me
so he can
shoot down
the stars
and steal a fleeting
joyous
slice of time
(which in his mind
likely tastes similar to lemon cake)

sunlight
and the billboards
are rolling by
on a river
of seagull feathers
as severed
bedlam
bedroom nights
drift through
the swarming
summer bees
in a forest
of coffee stained trees
all
white-and-brown
with oilspill headlines
and
longmissed deadlines
he sits
waiting
to see you
in
the
Sunlight.
