Teachers

It’s not fully accredited for all and to the extent
                                        A teacher does
For a child, all that will be and for an adult,
                                          All ever was

It should no longer be ignored that a teacher
                                            Shapes a life
The scope within the duty far extends
                                           Degrees of rife

They are literary prophets that instill a
                                            Code of ethics
And they equally accept both the “norm” and
                                            The eccentrics

Despite common theories, there is no
                                             Teacher’s pet;
For, judgment not they pass, but it’s the
                                         Willing that they let

They earn and deserve much respect; yet, they
                                         Do not demand it
What morally they teach, imperfect homes steal
                                             Like a bandit

No, they are not supreme authority on how
                                          It’s supposed to be
But, they try damn hard to teach our children
                                             For you and me.

Teacher's certainly don't get paid for all that they are worth and they certainly do shape lives. Thanks for commending teachers's. Thay so deserve it. And thank you for commenting on my poem "A Tiny Room" Love, Susan

They seem to be unsung heroes Kimberly. The time and dedication they put into their days is quite remarkable. Thank you kindly for your lovely comments >> James

Great message. The teacher shapes the child for the better part of their day, then the bad parents sucks it all away. Thank you as well for your other comment. Though I agree to let the man die with dignity, I was also questioning my right to end a human life, regardless of what state he's in, its sort of like playing God. Take care -Yoni

Awesome, to write on my profession with such respect as you have done here. And also, include how we should get better pay too. haha. I am in a private adult school and get much less than a public teacher! (actually we do have a few "pets" now and then, just try not to show it. heehee) LUv ya, Andrea

Good write, Kimberly. Teacher's teach by actions and not just books. Sometimes I wonder where the children look when choosing their life actions. I think it is not in books. Morality not taught at home (Teachers have the children MOST of their waking hours.) must not be taught by a teacher's views, but it does radiate in the actions of her heart through soft spoken words as kindness looks. I enjoyed your poem. Lovingly, Dane Ann

So much responsibilty beyond the educating of children-role model/mentor/surrogate parent...it's truly the most underappreciated field in our society-great write Miss Kimberly!!

Yes! I taught public school for 30 years. There were some good times and some bad, but while I was teaching music I did make some impact. A few have gone on to teach others - one is a principal of a high school. Teachers are poorly paid and, for the most part, not treated with the respect they deserve by the parentw and students. Good write. Love, daver
