Dear Soup Members, A very Happy Mother's Day to all you mother's.
I wanted to thank everyone for not only the lovely birthday wishes but the wonderful
comments sent on my poem being featured. I have been terribly busy these past few
days and I just don't have enough time to sit down and personally thank everyone.
I will visit Poetry Soup and comment on your poems as often as I am able.
Meanwhile, thank you all so very much. A special Thank you to Andrea Dietrich for her
sweet and thoughtful blog about my birthday. Blessings to all of you. Love, Connie
I feel very honored to have my poem below featured this Mother's Day week along
with so many other wonderful poems:
A cloudy sky looms
With threat of rain today,
And our American flag
Is being shredded
By the fierce winds
That constantly blow,
A reminder of our soldiers
And how they too
Are being shredded in this
War that no one wants.
Safe and warm within
My little castle on the hill
I can’t help but think
How cold winter will become;
That chill to the bone
They will feel washes over me
As compassion for their
Bearing up stabs my heart.
As each tour ends another
One begins, with funerals
To attend and more young
Soldiers laid to rest with cold
Medals of honor and folded flags
That will wave no more.
The rain is here and like my tears,
Comes in sudden bursts.
