The Dance Within the Dream

I

Send to me
Clarity,
Efficiently,

So that I may weave a web
Where I can rest my words,
Where I can be your Charlotte.

We dance in sync with the world.
I dare you to fly by me
And tangle yourself,
So that I may take you in.

II

Never mind the venom,
The pain, or other
Consequences.

Never mind the space
Between love and poison,
That place in your mind
Where nothing makes sense
But the punch of your pulse,
Pumping quicker and closer
To reason.

The animal resides under my skin;
The plot thickens.
As ice longs to be cool,
As Hell longs to have fire,
I want to bathe in your sweat,
Sleep in your arms,
And waken in your eyes.

At night the animals may make a mess,
And in the morning the master will clean it up.

III

This mind stirs with intrepidity,
The hot origins of candy.
In a constant state of change,
Reason and fascination,

I center myself; wait
For turbulence. I
Can open my mind,
An old rose blooming
And falling apart.

I imagine the image transform,
A surrealistic realization,
The dance within the dream.
I waken from this fantasy
To find the sight
Where pedals cascade
Has gone,

To a place for sanity
As shallow as a scalp,
The cover for complacency,
This iridescent limbo.

IV

There is love in a smile,
Irony in the air,
Fate in the distance,
A plus for every minus
And likewise inverted.

There are cards in the hands
Of a player,
A beholder of poised eyes.
"Fold," I say, "Fold,"
And she smiles,
She rests, the Queen,
With her Ace, her King,
The Jack, and that wicked fool.
I'm left naked, staring,
Dreaming, thinking of this,
And thinking of more.

V

Lull me now, fairness.
Send me home to riches.
Set another fire
In my imagination,
For I've braced in your image.
I've broken and healed,
But time is running short
And beauty is not enough.
