A Letter to Lord Byron

I never knew I'd be in heaven
In the autumn of my years.
Or that I'd be immerged
In the brilliant art of words,
Or float above operatic notes,
Or view ballet through
My elated tears.
I never thought I'd meet
Inspiration face to face,
Or feel it rise within me
With a poet's surrendering grace.
I just know that I'm contented
As profound love keeps flowing
From my impassioned heart.
This is the gift that artists
Of this world yearn to impart.

Lord Byron inspired me most when I first became interested
in poetry so this poem is dedicated to the inspiration I felt
for the memory of this master poet.

Thank you for entering my contest with this gem. You referred to ballet. It reminded me of an occasion where I watched a troupe of artists interpret poetry through dance. It was quite amazing.

Yes, I quite agree, I have a poem called Ballet is Poetry. Thank you for my placement in your contest. I seldom write long poems as to encourage people who are not fond of poetry, to become interested in reading a short piece. I am honored that you enjoyed this. Aloha, C

Hey Connie, a belated congratulations/apology for not reading your wonderfully written poem before I had to go off on a trip. I have read it now and certainly see how it placed on the winner's list. I'm back in town and will return to my specific comments relating to your winning poems for future contest. Again, sorry I couldn't respond sooner. But what a great work you have accomplished!

In our later years we may slow down in some respects but in so doing we find the time to look around and discover some of the things we missed in our busy youth. This is a wonderful entry Connie, good luck....Margaret
