The Teacup

He brought it back from France
After the second world war
It just sits there on the shelf
She doesn't use it anymore

Covered in yellow flowers
From it's handle to its rim
White from top to bottom
With a gold metalic trim

She guards it with her life
Since her husband passed away
The beginning of an heirloom
She'll give her son someday

An ordinary teacup
Is what other people see
But to her it's so much more
It's her husband's memory

Cherished for a lifetime
It's given her years of pleasure
This ordinary teacup
Is truly her hidden treasure

that was absolutely lovely, I inherited my grandmothers china and have passed it down to my eldest daughter and those little teacups are priceless, you captured it perfectly

It's sorta like the old saying "one mans junk is another mans treasure."

You are so right at how memories increase the value! Another great write for you! I logged on just to see what you had written today--a little more serious side than some of your other poems, but none the less, a really great poem of reflection of the mother's love for her departed husband. So sweet and magical. You really made an ordinary object way more than it seems. Great write.
