Thanks for showing up.
My day is in ruins,
But since you are here,
Let me give you a tour.
Up on that rise is the stone altar
Where I carefully laid out all my plans.
As you can see they have been shot to hell,
Scattered across the landscape of
My mind like scraps of paper
Blown in the wind.
Over there on the right
Is my temple of hopes and expectations.
Be careful as you approach -
The columns that hold it up
Have been dashed to the ground
And are crumbling around me.
And yes, that dusty arena
Just over there, surrounded by
That sturdy rock wall is where
I have been wrestling with reality.
I don’t know why I keep at it,
Since I seem to lose every time.
What’s that gate in the wall
All covered with vines, you ask?
I don’t know – I’ve never noticed it before.
There seems to be some kind of clearing
On the other side. Let’s go
Check it out - together.
