Jaded Seraph

A-sharp bends backwards the strings of my broken lyre
I hurtle towards Earth
In swan-dive defiance of God
crashing through an ocean of prayer
as all Heaven watches, aghast

I breathe in the toxic fumes of the city
leaping from rooftop to rooftop
as naked creatures, bold and ugly
wander the streets stealing souls
like some demented carnival

I spurn the prayer palaces of the prud'homme
like the ear-piercings of an off-key choir
I keep counsel with the pain of men
guided to battlefields
where souls are spent foolishly

I hold them in my arms
and wear their blood, listening
as they search for meaning
with their last dying breath

Erica, although this angel may seem "jaded" at first, he comforts soldiers and holds the dying in his arms. It takes a lot of strength and compassion to accomplish this. I cared for two friends who eventually died of cancer in hospices. It's no easy task. This is a brave angel who may have lost his way among the clouds but offers counsel to those who need it. Very insightful and thought-provoking work! Love it! Carolyn

This Angel does not reside in Hell. His punishment is to wonder the earth and witness men's suffering, but he is protected by God from the fallen.

Actually this is not a fallen Angel, but a Jaded one. Seraphim provide guidance for humanitarian and planetary causes but they also keep negative energy from getting through to divinity. No name was whispered to me when this poem was given. I believe it is Gabriel, rather than Lucifer.

Very descriptive of what I see as allergory for Satan. Not sure if not let me know and I'll read it again. Keep writing. Sara
