The Lonesome Maid

Lonely and sad was the maiden fair
walking alone in the evening air

The scent of jasmine on the breeze
did not her melancholy ease

As nightingales heard her cries
they saw the tears in her emerald eyes

I have not a lover, cried the maid
soon my youthful looks will fade

Who will hold these soft white hands
when at last the hour glass bends

The gentleman moon heard her cries
and dressed himself in his suit and tie

He smiled down at the winsome maid
weeping beneath in the forest glade

Dry your eyes and come with me
my dear sweet wife, you now shall be

Your maids of honour shall be the stars
I'll call upon my best friend Mars

Now the love from the two is the soft moon glow
that shines on down to the world below..
