Look at you standing there,
intent on getting a foot in the door,
to be let in from the street.
Ardent solicitor, gentleman of the road.
Alas! But you are no gentleman!
Refreshed and confident,
returning from your summertime retreat.
Much to your dismay,
as you studiously scan my face,
you find no sign of exaltation,
not so much as a trace.
Gazing at your melancholy smile,
I listen to your skillfull disguised lies,
as you conceal selfish motives
all the while.
The merchandise you are promoting
I simply will not buy.
The emotional cash flow
is in very depleted supply.
So gather the sales pitch
and your promotions,
move on to your next client,
seller of dreams, canvasser of lust.
This heart will save it's passions
for a product it can trust.
