Your headnote is helpful here. I think that each of us may take something away with us after reading this very thought provoking haiku. So many people have gone before us - we need to honor their memory for without them we are mere visitors to strange shores. Congratulations on your 1st place win, Mohammad. Regards, Su

Thought-provoking piece. The middle line links the other two and is probably the central message if I'm interpreting this correctly. Thank you for your kind comment. Karen

The buried hearts will leave mark... the risk for tasting love.. heavy meaning inside a haiku. Greatly written, Mohammad.

Who are the million hearts in the ground? Are they the departed? Fine haiku! Where can I get a copy of the rubai that you translated? Peace and Blessings Matthew Anish

I must have responded to your comments earlier but perhaps not the question you have posed about who the million hearts are. Matthew, it is the heart of the lovers that perished. Now reread the poem and see what does it stir in your poetic sensibility. -Mohammad
