Shackles

Some days I wake up and dream
-	Of being free of my shackles
Lost in my former scene
-	But you say I have no shackles

It is life’s challenges that plague my mind
-	Lost in the past of my glory days
The memories are not always kind
-	They all seem like a foggy haze

Gone forever is the dream
-	To put behind freedom’s past
All that remains is a shattered gleam
-	And so too the dream is dashed

Caroline, what a wonderful poem filled with frustration and sadness! When one "dream is dashed," I guess all we can do is seek another that is more attanable. Thank you for sharing; you have a very clear writing style that I admire. Best wishes, Carolyn
